Bobcats sprint past Elks, advance in Holiday action

GREEN FOREST -- The Berryville Bobcats advanced to Thursday's semifinals of the 51st Green Forest Holiday Tournament on Monday with a 64-39 victory over the Elkins Elks.

That set them up for a Thursday rematch with the Green Forest Tigers, who beat Valley Springs to advance. It was the third time in two weeks the Tigers and Bobcats faced off.

Colby Singer started the game with a three, then Cody Curtis hit a layup at the halftime buzzer as Berryville surged away from the Elks.

"The first quarter we were out of sync,"?Coach Compton said. "Our big post man, Clayton Taff, was out sick and we had no time to practice without him.

"We got our rhythm the second quarter and took off from there, got our transition going."

Sophomore K.J. Phillips stepped in for Taff, attacked the boards for big rebounds and scored 17 points while going 5 of 5 at the free-throw line.

Singer hit three 3-point shots and finished with 15 points, and Cody Curtis added 13, with Will Marley hitting a scoop-and-shoot at the halftime buzzer for two.
