GREEN FOREST -- It's time for the longest running basketball tournament in Arkansas to tip off, the 51st Green Forest Holiday Tournament, with first action on Dec. 8.

The tournament begins on Saturday, Dec. 8, with two boys games on tap. The Eureka Springs Highlanders will face the Alpena Leopards at 2 p.m., with Elkins and Kingston playing at 3:30.

Four games follow on Monday, Dec. 10, three on Wednesday and four on Thursday, with the finals on Friday, Dec. 14. See brackets at right.

Seeded teams, as voted by the coaches, are:

Boys- 1- Berryville; 2- Huntsville; 3- Eureka Springs; 4- Green Forest.

Girls- 1- Huntsville; 2- Kingston; 3- Green Forest; 4- Eureka Springs.

Other teams are Elkins, Kingston, Valley Springs, Yellville-Summit and Alpena.

The matchups are great this year, as Berryville and Huntsville met in the finals in both the boys and girls championship games last year, with Huntsville taking both titles.

Expect Berryville, Eureka Springs, Kingston and Green Forest to have something to say about that this year as they all bring strong teams to the battle.

Providing a little seasonal touch Friday will be the Miss Merry Christmas event, with the court introduced between games.
