CRANE, Mo. -- Berryville Bobcat head coach Brent Compton did a turnaround Tuesday night when he took a senior boys team to his former school for a non-conference bout.

Compton was a successful head girls coach at Crane, but returned this time to battle in the boys arena. After trailing 15-8 the first quarter, the Bobcats regained their style and powered on to a 55-35 victory and a 5-0 season mark.

Coach Nolan Helder's senior girls led most of their game, but a 22-point fourth quarter by the Crane girls handed them a 52-61 defeat.

Senior High Boys

8-15, 23-20, 42-28, 55-35

"We were sluggish, had a slow start and Crane hit three threes the first quarter,"?Compton said. "The second quarter the kids got re-focused.

"Levi Hereth hit four jumpers for eight points that quarter, and Clayton Taff had eight by the half. He hit our first five points.

"Then in the third quarter Will Marley hit two threes and a two for eight points and took a big charge. It energized us,"?Compton said.

"After the slow start, and on the road, the kids could have panicked, but we had real good senior leadership. Cody Curtis ran the team and got the ball to the shooters."

The JV played a half, with Compton saying they lost by two.

Scoring- BV- Taff- 16, 2/3 Fts; Hereth- 14, 1/2 Fts, 1 3s; Curtis- 9, 7/8 Fts; Marley- 8, 2 3's; K.J. Phillips- 6; Colby Singer- 2. Team- 10/13 Fts. CR- Levi Cook- 12, 2 3s; Chris Tucker- 11.

Senior High Girls

12-7, 26-26, 45-39, 52-61

"We had too many turnovers and missed too many free throws,"?Coach Helder said. "That makes it hard to win."

Berryville was just 7 of 14 at the line, while Crane, who finished seventh in state last year in Missouri, was 17 of 24.

"We handled their zone, man, and 1-3-1 trap all game until the fourth quarter," Helder noted, "then we just didn't handle the pressure.

"We played extremely hard and did an unbelievable job blocking out. Elise Holman did a great job scoring inside. Crane wasn't very big and when we got it down inside Elise (19 pts.) and Lynsey Griffith (16 pts.) scored.

"When Crane covered them, we kicked it out and knocked down shots. Megan Plumlee hit three threes, Ashley Edens one and Lynsey one,"?Helder said.

The JV played a half, with the game ending in an 11-11 tie. Tori Grim scored 4 points, and Megan Gibbins and Cheyenne Spears did good in the post, Coach said.
