Jr. volleyball team ends season 8-6

GRAVETTE -- Coach Kristin Smith's Junior Lady Bobcat volleyball team was seeded in third place at the district tournament last Saturday, and defeated Clarksville in their first match, 25-11, 25-11.

That put them into the second match of the tournament, facing the Farmington Junior Lady Cardinals, but a close 25-23 loss in the first game led to a 25-14 loss in the second, ending the team's season with an 8-6 record.

Farmington lost in the championship game to Gravette.

"I'm proud of the girls,"?Smith said. "We finished third in the conference, which was a big improvement from last year."

Vs. Clarksville

25-11, 25-11

In game one, Makkayla Flores had 7 points off serve and 4 kills, Lindsey Newberry 1 off serve and 14 sets, Diamond Meza 8 off serve, and Shaylan Harp 2 kills.

In game two, Flores had 3 points off serve and 3 kills, Cheyenne Brady 4 off serve, Newberry 1 off serve and 7 sets, Meza 11 off serve, Harp 2 off serve and a kill, and Megan Donahoe 1 off serve.

"Diamond and Makkayla stepped up and really played,"?Coach Smith said. "I could see in their eyes they wanted to win."

Vs. Farmington

23-25, 14-25

After the big win over Clarksville, the girls sat for two hours waiting for their next match.

"We beat Farmington twice in conference this year, but after a two-hour break we were flat, not focused," Smith said. "They were like a new team, all hitting the ball.

"The first game went back and forth, but we were always one point behind at the end and couldn't catch up."

Flores had 3 points off serve, 2 digs and 2 kills, Brady had 1 off serve and a dig, Newberry had 2 off serve and 8 sets, Meza 3 off serve and 2 digs, Harp 2 off serve and 1 kill, and Donahoe one off serve.

In game two, Flores had 2 kills, Brady 2 off serve, Newberry 7 sets, Meza 2 off serve, and Harp 2 off serve and a block.
