Wilma Darlene Smith

Wilma Darlene Smith, 85, of Carthage, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at St. Luke's Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Wilma was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Berryville, to Richard and Alice Williams. She married Clyde Smith, her husband of 68 years, in 1939. He survives her. She and Clyde moved to California in 1944, and in 1950 decided to move back to the Midwest. After stopping to visit family in Carthage they decided to make it home.

Wilma was a member of First Assembly of God of Carthage and loved cooking and caring for her family and friends.

Additional survivors include two sons; Gerald and his wife Joyce Smith, Darrel and his wife Sheri Smith, one daughter; Linda and her husband Robert Boyd; one sister; Oma Newman; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters, Earl, Joy, C.H., Jess Chloe Williams and Luttie Aubrey.

Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at the First Assembly of God Church in Carthage. Burial was in the Fidelity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. John's Hospice in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
