Jimmie Eugene Phillips

Jimmie Eugene Phillips, 61, of Springdale, died Tuesday, Aug. 28 at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Berryville to Willie Lefate "Bud" and Ruby Lee Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Bentonville High School. He served aboard the USS Coral Sea as an electronics technician during the Vietnam War before receiving an honorable discharge. He spent many years in California before returning to Arkansas. Mr. Phillips was a folk artist and enjoyed composing music and writing poetry. He was an avid collector, owning some items dating back to the 1700s. He was also a master watch and clock repairman.

He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents, Oscar and Julia Phillips, Flora Davis and James Riley Lee.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby Phillips of Springdale; three sisters, Judith Michaels of Springdale, Linda Jimenez and husband John of Anderson, Mo., Ailene Hagee and John Eldridge of Sallisaw, Okla.; two brothers, Larry Phillips of Springdale, Charles Phillips and wife Monte of Clarksburg, Md.; an aunt, Virginia Rogers and husband Glen of Alabam; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept.1, at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale with Pastor Jason Scott officiating.
