Ross D. Sackett
ROSS D. SACKETT, 77, died of pneumonia Thursday, Aug. 16, in Fontana, Wisc. He was born March 26, 1930, in LaGrange Ill., the son of DeForest and Margaret (Ross) Sackett.
Mr. Sackett moved to Eureka Springs in 1978 after holding executive positions with Holt Reinhart and Winston, CBS Educational Group, and Encyclopedia Britannica.
After leaving the corporate world, he owned and operated various small companies in the early childhood education field.
He also bought and had restored 14 classic Victorian houses in town and operated a small publishing company that produced, among other things, The Complete Map and Guide to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
This last combined his interest in hiking and Eureka, a town he loved and referred to as The Town Where Misfits Fit. There was not a street, trail or path in Eureka Springs he did not walk.
In recent years, Mr. Sackett divided his time between his home in Fontana Wisconsin and Eureka Springs. He loved books, architecture, music, sports, and enjoyed friendships with a large and eclectic mix of people.
Mr. Sackett is survived by his wife, Skip; two sons, Scott and Stuart; two daughters, Cynthia Haberman and Amy Guthrie; two brothers, James and David; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son David Ross Sackett.
A memorial service is planned for later this year.
