Chancie Tucker Pete Bell

CHANCIE TUCKER PETE BELL, age 85, of Green Forest, died July 4, 2007, at St. John s Hospital  Berryville. He was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Alpena, o Thomas Tucker and Nora Bishop Bell.

Pete was a lifetime resident of Carroll County. During his service time in the U.S. Army during WWII, he met and then married Mary Margaret Ralstin of Rushville, Ind. on Feb. 1, 1946, in Great Falls, Mont. After an honorable discharge for both, Pete and Mary, who was serving as a Registered Nurse in the Army, made their home in Arkansas in the community of Sunny Lane.

Pete became a farmer, raising Holstein cows during the day and worked for Turney Wood Products at night. In 1967, they moved to Berryville, where they resided for 35 years. During this time, Pete worked at Hanby Lumber Company until he purchased and ran his own paint store until he retired in 1980. Pete was a member of Moore Freewill Baptist Church. In 2002, he and Mary moved to Green Forest, where he lived until his death.

Throughout his adult life, he enjoyed training and showing Fox Trot horses. The highlight of each year for Pete was attending the National Fox Trot Gated Horseshow in Ava, Mo. As a lifelong Arkansas resident he enjoyed following the Arkansas Razorback football and basketball teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Finis Troy, Garland and Truman Bell, one infant sister, and a daughter, Cheryl Glee.

Pete is survived by his wife, Mary; one sister, Gladys Griffis of Berryville; one daughter Carol and husband Thomas Grandstaff of Woodstock, Ga.; and two grandsons, Geoffrey Scott Grandstaff and Adam Bryan Grandstaff of Woodstock, Ga.; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services were held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with Pastor Larry Montgomery, Rev. Doug Harris, and Rev. Jerry Spurlock officiating. Interment followed in the Dog Branch Cemetery near Osage under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
