ELAINE SIMMONS WAFFORD, a resident of Holiday Island, was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Dallas, Texas, a daughter of Eldred Porter and Lucile (Davis) Simmons. She died Sunday, May 27, 2007, in Springdale at the age of 85.

Mrs. Wafford was a homemaker and Realtor and attended Holiday Island Community Church.

On May 25, 1962, she was united in marriage with Carl Preston Wafford, who survives her of the home. She is also survived by one son, William R. Hammond, of Clearfield, Utah; five daughters, Kay L. Cook of Huntsville, JoAnne Herriman of Springdale, June Hurst of Bella Vista, Suzanne Johnson of Mabank, Texas, and Kathlene Schneider of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol Hammond Marker, and one grandson, Robert William Cook.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Nelson Chapel of the Springs with Rev. Allen Thrasher officiating. Interment followed in the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
