VELMA CLAIR SHUEY, following a lengthy illness, died at Carroll County Nursing and Rehab in Berryville on May 18, 2007.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1917, in Morning Sun, Iowa, to the late Thomas Russell Bras and Sylvia Hope Bras. Velma married Gifford L. Shuey on Aug. 11, 1936, and to this union, two children were born.

She was a member of Viola Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending until she was unable. She was very devoted to her faith and her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith, and her husband, Chuck Luney, of Shell Knob, Mo.; one son, Robert, and his wife, Mary Shuey, of Glenville, N.C.; two sisters, Madge Mimnis of Morning Sun, Iowa, and Jean Wolverton of Bull Shoals; one brother, John Burlington, of Iowa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Gifford, who died Nov. 11, 1999, as well as two brothers, Merlin and Dale Bras.
