He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 through 1962 and retired at the rank of major. Joe s awards and medals include the Bronze Star, Good Conduct, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, Europe-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button (WWII), Expert Pistol Badge, and the Order of Yun Hui from the Chinese government.
He moved his family to Fayetteville in 1964. He served as a deputy for the Washington County Sheriff s Office. During the 1970s and 80s, he and a friend ran a security business at Drake Field. Joe was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, American Legion Post. No. 27, Fraternal Order of Police, and National Association of Uniformed Services.
He enjoyed model trains, assembling model cars and airplanes, boating, fishing, and traveling. Joe was well known and loved for his friendliness and sense of humor.
He is survived by is wife, Frances Arnold Hussey, of the home; step-children Brian Parrish and Carmen and spouse Tom Newberry, all of Fayetteville; three sons, Lonnie Hussey of Fayetteville, Joe Hussey, Jr. of Tulsa, Okla., and Ross and wife Belinda of Bryant, Ark.; daughter Norma and husband Steve Roddy of Olive Branch, Miss.; grandchildren Victoria, Jacob, and Brandon Parrish, all of Little Rock, Lori and spouse Chad Brown of North Little Rock, Michael and Kaitlin Hussey of Bryant.
Memorial services were held Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville with Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Beard s Funeral Chapel, Fayetteville.
