REVEREND BURT BIRCHFIELD, a resident of Eureka Springs, was born July 28, 1910, in Eureka Springs, a son of James Samuel and Lula Kate (Evans) Birchfield. He died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the age of 96.

Rev. Birchfield was a minister of the gospel for many years. He also drove the school bus for Eureka Springs and was a rock mason. He was the spiritual leader for his family and many others.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Ruth Birchfield, and Robert and Brenda Birchfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eva Lou and Earl Crawford and Judie and Ed Robinson, all of Eureka Springs; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grand?child; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Jones of Berryville, and Elsie David of Pea Ridge; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

On Dec. 22, 1938, he was united in marriage with Gladys Vernia Glocksien who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one infant son, two grandsons, six brothers, three sisters, and one son-in-law.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs with Rev. Earl Dean Morris officiating. Interment was in Christian Unity Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial Donations may be made to the Eureka Springs Hospital Foundation and the Eureka Springs Hospice.
