LENA SIMS, a resident of Rogers, was born July 17, 1924, in Osage, a daughter of William Jackson and Lillian Sue (Tatum) Smith. She died Sunday, March 11, 2007, in her home at the age of 82.
Lena retired from J.M. Smuckers Co. after a long career. She was a member of the American Legion.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Gail and Mitch Villines of Bentonville; a son and daughter in law, Bobby and Carma Sims of Garfield; a sister, Shirley Jones of Wilburton, Okla.; four grandchildren, Tim Fowkes of Neosho, Mo., Gary Fowkes of Fallon, Nevada, Ronnie Sims of Garnerville, Nev., and Beth Bartlett of Eureka Springs; five great-grandchildren, Blake Fowkes of Harrison, Jancie Fowkes and Alyssa Fowkes both of Neosho, Mo., and Elizabeth Sims and Lexi Sims both of Gardenville, Nev.; several other relatives; and a host of friends.
On Nov.22, 1942, she was united in marriage with Dunard (Barlow) Sims, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Smith; a grandson, David Sims; four brothers, Jim Smith, John Smith, Roy Smith, and Bill Smith; and a sister, Charlene Stevens.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 2007, at the Alpena Cemetery with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Interment followed the service in the Alpena Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
