RAY HAMMONS, a resident of Green Forest, was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Denver, Ark., a son of Ervin and Bethla (Campbell) Hammons. He died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Springdale, at the age of 81.

Mr. Hammons was a veteran, having served in the Army during WWII. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Missouri and a truck driver.

He is survived by one son, David and wife Mary Hammons of Blue Eye, Mo.; one daughter, Sandra and husband Daniel Conner of Green Forest; two brothers, Willis Hammons of Alpena, and Robert Hammons of California; two sisters, Anna Belle Thompson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jessie Mae Elmore of Green Forest; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

On Oct. 20, 1948, he was united in marriage with Patsy Villines, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Alpena Cemetery with Reverend Mark Bryant officiating. Interment followed at the Alpena Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
