He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in?Eureka Springs and a lifetime member of The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; graduated from Booneville High?School, and Arkansas Teachers College at Conway; received his master's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville; served in Korea from 1952 to 1953 with?Arkansas National Guard 217th Medical Collecting Corps; continued to serve in the National Guard achieving the rank of major general; appointed adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard; and was a teacher of history and political science and director of student financial aide at the University of Missouri,?Rolla.
He was preceded in death by his wife,?Sonia Strong Pendergrass, and son, Porter Holland Pendergrass. He is survived by his companion, Suzanne Sanders-Tourtelot; son, John S. Pendergrass and wife, Shelly; grandchildren Calle and Ally Pendergrass; and daughter Sarna Pendergrass and partner Wilma G. Bauer.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church in Eureka Springs with?Rev. Edie Bird officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville.
