AUGUST E. VOYLES, 84, of Green Forest, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale.

He was born at Clinton, Mo., to the late William and Hattie Carlyle Voyles. On Feb. 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to Freda Root.

He enjoyed talking to people and fishing. August was a veteran, serving in World War II with the Seventh Armored Infantry Battalion as a rifleman. He received the Good Conduct Medal, and was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Freda Root Voyles of the home; one daughter, Bonnie Wolfe of Rogers; three sons, Donald and wife Debbi Voyles of Springdale, Larry Voyles and Richard Voyles of the home; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Hazel Voyles, Alice Voyles; Elsie and Mary Loyland; and six brothers, David, Raymond, Bob, Arthur, Leonard and Riland Voyles.

Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, Dec. 23, at Smith Family Funeral Home with Brother Carroll Easterling officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery near Dry Fork by Smith Family Funeal Home.
