John Christopher Hennig, JR.

JOHN CHRISTOPHER HENNIG, JR., a resident of Huntsville, was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Hawkeye, Iowa, a son of John Christopher Hennig, Sr. and Mabel Kay (Smith) Hennig. He died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, in his home at the age of 83.

Mr. Hennig was an interior decorator. He was a member of the Eureka Springs Freewill Baptist Church and was currently attending the Lower Campground United Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served with the United States Marine Corp. during World War II.

On Jan. 14, 2005, he married Wilma Mae (Bartholomew) Hennig, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his son and daughter in law, Robert Lee and Mona Hennig of Fayetteville; two daughters, Jerry Sue Carpenter and her husband Hadley of Blue Eye, Mo., and Dallas Smith of Berryville; two sisters, Ann Fordyce of Texas and Jewell Kohler of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a step-daughter, Doris Meller and her husband Mark of Triplet, Mo.; a step-son, David Littrell and his wife Mary of Springdale; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erhmal Jean (Holmes) Hennig. On July 10, 1954, he was united in marriage with his second wife, Catherine Jane (Winans) Hennig, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Kristy Jean Carpenter; a brother, Thomas Hennig; and two sisters, Beulah Hoyt and Flora Rigby.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ed Stilley and Rev. Denver Cochren officiating. Interment followed in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
