Edna Ellen Winkle

EDNA ELLEN WINKLE formerly of Blue Eye, Mo., died Dec. 14, 2006, at James River Care Center at the age of 100. She had been a resident of Springfield, Mo., for 10 years. She was the third child of 11 born to Frank and Paulina Jane Wise Swofford on Nov. 20, 1906 near Oak Grove.

On Sept. 14, 1924, she was married to Lester Samuel Winkle. To this union, nine children were born.

She was active in the Home Demonstration Club at Parker, Ark. and the Blue Eye Hook and Thimble Club. She enjoyed making quilts and gardening.

She was formerly a member of the Freewill Baptist Church at Blue Eye and Oak Grove and was a member of the University Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; her parents; her husband; three sons, Earl, Hugh and Cecil Ray Winkle; two daughters, Eileen Robinette and Vada Trost; and one great-granddaughter, Mary Robinette Libertus.

She is survived by three daughters, Nola Winkle, Elsie Boatright and Bobbie and her husband Doyle Kinder of Springfield, Mo.; and one son, John and his wife Yvonne Winkle of Troy, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Sue Winkle of Harrison and Cleo Winkle of Clinton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Blue Eye Cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one s choice or University Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
