FLIPPIN -- The Berryville senior girls basketball team started their 2006-07 campaign off right with a 47-33 win over Bruno-Pyatt in the Flippin Arvest Bank Tournament on Wednesday night.

The win moved the Lady Bobcats to a semifinal game against the Omaha Lady Eagles on Thursday, with a possible trip to the finals Saturday evening at 6 p.m. awaiting.

"It was our first game and we got a win," Coach Matt Carter said. "The kids played really hard. We're not in game shape yet, but they did a good job. We've just got to get our legs under us. Overall, it was a good team performance for our first time out."

Berryville jumped on the Lady Patriots 4-0, then went cold and trailed 6-11 after the first quarter. But switching from a man to zone press turned the tables and the Lady Bobcats outscored B-P 18-4 in the second period to take a 24-15 lead at halftime.

The Lady Patriots (5-1) made it tough in the third quarter, creeping back to 32-27, but Berryville went to a straight man defense and finished the game strong in a 47-33 win.

Starters Courtney Moore, Mackenzie Howerton and Lynsey Griffith each had two fouls the first quarter, but settled down to finish the game.

Ivie Deweese was high scorer with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2/2 Fts.
