Highlander boys sweep two wins at Classic, senior girls split games
ST. PAUL -- The Highlander boys found the St. Paul Classic to their liking as they recorded victories last Friday over Mulberry, 73-39, and Monday, Oct. 23, over the hosts, 60-44.
The senior girls split, defeating Mulberry 25-22 on Friday, then falling to St. Paul 24-33 on Monday.
Senior High Boys Vs. Mulberry

"They played a zone defense, so when we got it we threw the ball down the floor and shot layups," Coach Daniel Cornelison said. "If they missed it, we rebounded and threw an outlet pass and got layups."
Coach said Rudy Sanchez played well, hit 6 of 8 free throws, one 3-pointer and guarded well. Also, T.J. Wilkinson had 14 points, caught the ball well around the basket, and finished plays.

"St. Paul is a wild team. They throw the ball all over the place," Coach said. "We gave up easy baskets, so we've got to get better on defense."
Jordan Parsons, the only senior on the squad, earned praise from his coach when this one was over.
"Jordan took the ball to the hole hard and kept us focused. He guarded their best player, and also scored 22 points. He's our senior leader," Coach said.

Senior High Girls Vs. Mulberry
5-5, 9-9, 14-14, 25-22
It was point for point as the Lady Highlanders didn't shoot well against Mulberry's zone.
"We only made 7 of 20 free throws and didn't hit outside," Coach Aaron Hall said. "We were down three or four in the fourth, then hit three 3-pointers for a comeback. Shelby Sebby had two of those."

"It was a halfcourt game, a slugfest and we didn't make our shots," Coach Hall said. "It was a good game. We missed layups, but made just 8 of 12 free throws to their 17 of 23."
