Junior high Bobcats move to 4-4 on season
GENTRY -- First half fireworks settled the score in Berryville's favor in a 12-7 battle at Gentry, giving the Bobcats a 4-4 season mark.
Berryville took the opening kickoff and started a march, with Ellis Cook needing just two carries to score. Leading 6-0, they kicked off to the Pioneers, with Adam Noble making the play this time.
Noble stripped the ball from a Pioneer runner and Andy McCanless grabbed it and dashing 65 yards down the sideline to tack on another six points.
Gentry responded with a good drive just before the half, scored, tacked on an extra point, making it 12-7 at the break.
Bobcat coach Budd Smith said, "Their sweeps were killing us. We figured out how to cover that, then Gentry had to do other things, and we knew how to cover them."
Coach Smith said McCanless had several big plays, including the touchdown run and also a big tackle on fourth down that turned the ball back to the Junior Bobcats.
"Ty Masters, Dillon Johnson, and Cody Plumlee all gave good efforts," Smith said. "We held Elkins at midfield, sat on the ball and let the clock run out. It was a good effort by everyone."
