ARLO (JOE) DIERKING, a resident of Berryville, was born March 18, 1926, in Herkimer, Kan., a son of Alfred F.G.W. and Edna Anna (Pralle) Dierking. He died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, in his home at the age of 80.

Joe was a farmer. He was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the American Legion. He was a veteran, having served during World War II.

On Nov. 18, 1973, he was united in marriage with Donnie Opal (West) Dierking, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by eight sons, Kirby Dierking and wife, Lynette of Fairview, Kan., Larry Dierking and his wife, Jeanne of Watts, Okla., Neil Dierking and wife Deb of Liberty, Neb., Mike Dierking of Summerfield, Kan., Steve Dierking and wife, Sara of Lincoln, Neb., Kent Dierking of Summerfield, Kan., Mark Dierking and his wife, Kris of Lincoln, Neb., and Brian Dierking and wife Jill of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Vicki Dierking of Lincoln, Neb., and Judy and her husband, Bill Roark of Koshkonong, Mo. ; a step daughter, Judy McCullugh of Blue Eye, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eldon Dierking and his wife, Joanne of Monett, Mo., Irvin Dierking of Fairview, Kan., Glen Dierking and his wife, Margie of Marysville, Kan.; two sisters, Fern Kostal and husband, Steve of Odell, Neb., and Darlene Rippe and her husband Norman of Smith Center, Kan.; a brother, Earl Schwarz of Home, Kan.; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alma Dierking; and his daughter in law, Martha Dierking.

Memorial graveside funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at the Moreland Cemetery with Pastor Jim Clay officiating under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at
