She was born Jan. 3, 1942, in San Francisco, Calif., a daughter of Vincent John and Mary Evelyn (Lane) Sauret. She was raised in Salinas, Calif., and graduated from Palma High School in Salinas. She attended Hartnell College in Salinas, earning an associate of arts degree.
Mrs. Carney had a long and distinguished career in the banking and savings and loan industry. She had worked in the field for 30 years, and had been the first female corporate vice-president at Home Savings of America Co.
She and Mike Carney were married Nov. 10, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nev., and for 12 years made their home in Eureka Springs.
She served two terms on the Board of Commissioners at Holiday Island. She enjoyed theater arts, painting, golf, bowling, and music.
Survivors include her husband Mike Carney of Brookings; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Patsy Sauret of Redding, Calif., and Thomas and Rebecca Sauret of Corvallis, Ore.; two sisters, Nicole Sauret of San Jose, Calif., and Michele Nunes and husband Dennis of Los Gatos, Calif.; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Carney's ashes will be buried at sea by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
