Donald Richard Hall, 72, died April 30, 2006, at Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, Ill. He was born March 16, 1934, in National City, Calif., to Daniel Cooney and Thelma Cooney, who later married Lafe Hall in 1949.

He was later adopted by Mr. Hall. His family moved to Eureka Springs in 1946, where he graduated from Eureka Springs High School in 1951. Mr. Hall served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954 on the aircraft carrier Philippine Sea.

He worked for the phone company in Aurora, Ill., for several years before moving back to Arkansas, where he decided to go into law enforcement. After completing police training he went to work in the city of Eureka Springs as assistant chief of police. He was a Mason and life member of the National Rifle Association.

For the past several years he was living in Bocas Del Toro, an island of the Republic of Panama, until moving to Tiskilwa, Ill., where he lived with his sister and her family.

Mr. Hall leaves one sister Judith (Rowland) Munn of Tiskilwa, Ill; two step-sisters Ruth Ann Kunz of Rogers, and Marion Hillock of Aurora, Ill.; two step-brothers, Edward Hall of Memphis, Tenn., and Robert Hall, of Aurora, Ill.; two nieces and one nephew.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the Eureka Springs Cemetery. Rev. George Clay will officiate.
