Nellie Esther Peden Terherst
NELLIE ESTHER PEDEN TERHERST, a resident of Green Forest, was born April 18, 1919, in Enon, Ark., a daughter of Joseph Owen and Vineta Ellen (Hopper) Peden. She died Friday, April 14, 2006, in her home at the age of 86.
Nellie was a member of the Oneness Church of God in Denver, Ark., where she taught Sunday school for nearly 60 years. She was a devout Christian and prayer warrior who loved her church and considered its members her family. Nellie was a very hard worker and when she wasn't at church, she was either milking, gardening, canning or cooking. The Terherst farm was a place of hard work, but also a place where everyone was encouraged to explore and enjoy God's creation. She lived her life for God, her husband and her family.
On Oct. 29, 1938, she was united in marriage with Glenford Mark Terherst. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Trudy Terherest of Jerome, Idaho and Wendell and Edith Terherst of Alpena; five daughters and sons-in-law, Fern Jones, Vineta and Danny Wingate, Ona Rowland, Louan and Mike Shudy and Eunice and Kevin Whiteley all of Green Forest; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Wayburn Terherst of Omaha, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Billye Lou Terherst of Siloam Springs, and Bamie Jones of Harrison; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Kenneth Asbury of Green Forest; and a faithful loving nurse, LaVonne.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Milton and Ira Peden; one sister, Adie Peden; husband, Glenford Terherst; one son, Hershel Terherst; one grandson, Jimmy Cochran; an two infant grandsons.
Memorial donations may be made to the Denver Cemetery of Enon Cemetery in care of the First National Bank of Green Forest.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, 2006, at the Nelson Chapel in Green Forest with Rev. Kenneth Asbury, Rev. Doug Grinder and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating.
