Don Rix

DON RIX, a resident of Holiday Island, was born April 6, 1925, in Sac County, Iowa, a son of Emil and Anna (Garms) Rix. He died April 15, 2006, in his home at the age of 81.

Mr. Rix was a vocational ag teacher. He was also a manager for Ralston-Purina Co. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was a veteran, having served with the United States Navy during World War II. He attended the Grace Lutheran Church at Holiday Island.

On June 18, 1950, he was united in marriage with Norma (Shull) Rix, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Carolyn Rix of Fremont, Neb., Paul and Susan Rix of Harrisonville, Mo., and Craig and Jeanne Rix of Denver, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jeff Chamberlain of Rock Hill, S.C., and Sherry and Gene Newsome of Nevada, Iowa; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Lenore Rix of Nevada, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred and her husband, Bernard Smith of Wichita, Kan., and Marcella Kolb of Lytton, Iowa; several other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Anna Rix; and three brothers, Herbert Rix, Bob Rix, and Earl Rix.

Memorial funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Holiday Island with Pastor Kenneth Haydon officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 179 Holiday Island Dr., Holiday Island, AR 72631. Cremation arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Service.
