Clifford Melvin Luney
CLIFFORD MELVIN LUNEY, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at the Hilltop Nursing Center in Harrison, at the age of 89. He was born April 24, 1916, in Barry County, Mo., a son of the late Mary Leva Luney.
Clifford was a longtime resident of Harrison. Until his retirement in 1978, he was employed by Sheehan Pipeline Construction. He then worked for the City of Harrison until 2000, when he retired at the age of 83. He worked as a mechanic and various other jobs over the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the fiddle.
On Oct. 31, 1939, he was united in marriage with Helen Louise (Roe) Luney who survives him of the Hilltop Nursing Center. He is also survived by one son Joe and his wife Susie Luney of Alpena; one daughter, Christene and her husband Gerald Clemence of Harrison; eight grandchildren, Gina and her husband Rob Summers of Collinsville, Okla., Susan and her husband Gerald Drewry of Harrison, Lori Luney of Berryville, Kim and her husband Charles Clark of Compton, Kelley and her husband Richard Hinson of Bergman, Shannon and his wife Cheryl Clemence of Harrison, Shelley and her husband Mark Journagan of Harrison, and Bobby and wife Melissa Clemence of Harrison; 15 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Stocker of California, Georgia Robinson of Federal Way, Wash., and Ann Hinton of Iowa; several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and three sisters, Irene Lahmeyer, Nadine Gray and Norine Merrett.
Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, March 30, 2006, in the Gass cemetery south of Burlington with Rev. Dwayne Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the Gass Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Honorary Pallbearers were the staff of Hilltop Nursing Center and Amanda Chitsey.
