Cook Memorial Library to open on Jan. 29 at HICC
HOLIDAY ISLAND -- The Dr. Herman G. Cook Memorial Library at Holiday Island Community Church will open on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Although the furnishings are not complete, the books have been cataloged and are ready to be checked out. A dedication service will be held when the library is completed.
Mary Lou Martin, chairperson of the Library Committee, reports that many hours of work by many volunteers have gone into transforming Dr. Cook's personal library into the church library. The library is located on the lower level of the Herman and Ellen Cook Center for Continuing Ministries and is open to the public.
A temporary schedule of hours of operation is: Sundays, 10:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.; Mondays, 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.; and Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.
The Library Committee was responsible for setting up the library. Members of that committee are Mary Lou Martin, Glenda George, Margaret Scobee, Lynette Smith, Jean Veri, and Bonnie Williamson. They were assisted by Ellen Cook and Leona Snyder.
To date, 17 people have volunteered to carry out the clerical work of maintaining a library of nearly 3,000 volumes.
