Elks Hoop Shoot set for Jan. 21
EUREKA SPRINGS -- The annual Eureka Springs Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at the Eureka Springs middle school on Saturday, Jan. 21, with action beginning at noon.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for boys and girls in the following age groups: 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13.
Schools competing include Berryville, Cassville, Green Forest, Huntsville, and Eureka Springs. Each school will hold their own contest to determine a winner in each age group.
The winners from all schools will compete at Eureka Springs to determine champions in each age division, with both winners and runner-ups receiving trophies.
Winners will advance to the State Hoop Shoot in Hot Springs on Feb. 19. State winners advance to Regionals at Paris, Tenn., with Nationals at Springfield, Mass., where the winners will have their names inscribed on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Hall.
This is the 34th year the Elks have sponsored the Hoop Shoot program, with all 50 states taking part, with more than 3 million boys and girls competing.
