BERRYVILLE -- Height was the key in both senior high games played Tuesday night in Bobcat gym, with the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats both taking key 1AAA Conference wins.

Coach Brent Compton's senior boys posted a 42-35 victory, overcoming the Tigers' 6-6 and 6-9 post men.

Coach Matt Carter's Lady Bobcats (12-3, 6-0) rolled easily past the Lady Tigers as their inside duo of Emily Bell and Mackenzie Howerton combined for 25 points.

SENIOR HIGH BOYS

Vs. Prairie Grove

16-9, 21-21, 28-29, 42-35

The game was low scoring as the Tigers stayed in a zone defense after Berryville (8-6, 4-2) burned them for layups when they pressed.

"They were real big inside, but our kids did a nice job of attacking the gaps in their zone, then kicking the ball out for shots," Coach Compton said. "Our post men, Stevin Williams, Geoff West and Clayton Taff, combined for 17 of our 42 points and did an excellent job of guarding their posts.

"Brad Newberry had a great game, hit some big shots when we needed them."

Newberry led the team with 15 points and three big 3-point shots, while 6-9 Steven Idlet led the Tigers with 16, well below his average.

Scoring- BV- Newberry- 15, 3 3s; Williams- 8; Gared Jennings- 6; Taff- 6; Doug Marley- 4; West- 3. Team- 9/12 Fts., 6/8 4th. PG- Idlet- 16; Chris Scroggins- 9.

SENIOR HIGH GIRLS

13-5, 27-11, 47-20, 57-24

Berryville used its height to intimidate the Lady Tigers when they started in a 2-2-1 press, dropping back to a tight man defense.

"We were up 13-0, but there were a lot of fouls the first quarter and both teams were in the bonus that period. Our half-court trap worked when we used it, after timeouts, although we didn't use it a lot.

"We played a lot of zone and that worked well. Mackenzie Howerton did a great job and ran the floor hard, scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds. Emily Bell had 12 points and 12 rebounds and just played about a half due to all our substituting.

"Katie Tennant played her best game of the year, scored seven points. Everybody played hard. It was our first game after the holidays."

Scoring- BV- Howerton- 13, 10R; Bell- 12, 12R; 7's- Courtney Moore, Tennant, Hailey Blanchard; Mahalie Armstrong- 4; Heather Eaves- 3; 2's- Lynsey Griffith, Ivie Deweese. Team- 18/31 Fts. PG- Burris- 9.
