RUTH LAVONNE CALLEN, a resident of Berryville, formerly of Oak Grove, was born June 10, 1924, in Kingston, a daughter of Norval and Daphne (Maxwell) Walker. She died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in Berryville at the age of 81.

For many years Mrs. Callen owned and operated Plumlee and Callen Grocery & Feed in Oak Grove with her husband Clate. She later worked in the bookkeeping department of the First National Bank of Berryville until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Berryville.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry and his wife Cyndi Callen of Oak Grove and Kerry and his wife Ellen Callen of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three grandchildren, Anna, Christopher and Martin Callen all of Lee's Summit, and one brother, Fred and his wife Marie Walker of Berryville.

On May 19, 1955, she was united in marriage with Clate Callen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at the Hale Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Skip French officiating. Interment will follow in the Hale Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
