Bobcat boys win one over Leopards at OBC
OMAHA -- A young Berryville Bobcat basketball team got one win in three tries in the 6th Annual Community First Bank Omaha Border Classic last week, and also got much needed experience against three good teams.
Berryville won its opener against Alpena, 87-59, but may have used up too many points in that one. They lost to Bergman in game two, 54-40, on Thursday, and to Omaha last Saturday, 58-50.
This week the Bobcats begin 1AAA Conference play, facing Green Forest today, then traveling to Elkins on Friday.

A close game became tight in the fourth quarter when Berryville cut the Eagles' lead to five after Gared Jennings scored nine and Doug Marley eight, including two threes.
"We had a bad second quarter, couldn't hit a shot, got outscored 13-6 that period and got in a hole," Coach Compton said. "We scored 24 in the fourth, but Omaha scored 21. We only had eight turnovers for the game, but Omaha's 6-4 players had five blocks in the game."
Omaha used that size to get to the free throw line, where they hit 20 of 28. Berryville was just 6 of 8.

The Bobcats (3-2) were muscled around in this game as a physical, athletic Panther squad jumped on a smaller Berryville team from the start.
"Bergman has such physical, athletic players, and we didn't meet their physical play," Coach Compton said. "They got a big lead the first half, but we gave more effort the second half. We just didn't play at a high enough level. We only shot six free throws. That tells you we weren't aggressive enough. Bergman was just a lot stronger."
