SPRINGDALE -- The Lady Bobcat cross country team showed its strength last Saturday at the Har-Ber High School meet when they won the overall trophy in the senior girls division over several 4A-5A schools.

The team scored 54 points to beat host Har-Ber, led by former Eureka Springs coach Bill Ward, who tied with Springdale with 56 points. Siloam Springs had 67, and Van Buren 116.

In the senior boys division, Van Buren won the overall trophy with a low of 42 points, but Berryville won the 3A-and-down first place trophy with a 51. Springdale had 67, Har-Ber 83, Siloam Springs- 115, and Huntsville 150.

"The kids did a super job," Coach Ben Lairamore said about his two squads. The Bobcat senior teams will travel to Hot Springs this Saturday, Nov. 5, for the state cross country meet at Oaklawn Park.

"Heber Springs, Pulaski Academy and DeQueen have strong teams, so we'll have to run a little better at state to have a shot at a title," Coach Lairamore said. "Both teams have to run close together in their races, but I was very proud they beat 4A and 5A teams this past weekend. Don't count either team out at state."
