LEWIS BURKS, a resident of Green Forest, formerly of Berryville, was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Berryville, a son of Wesley and Lillie (Hawkins) Burks. He died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, in his home at the age of 89.
Mr. Burks was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former deacon at the White Oak Church and was currently a member of the Huntsville United Baptist Church. He was a timber logger and an avid coon hunter.
On Aug. 3, 1940, he was united in marriage with Chloerene (Gage) Burks, who survives him. He is also survived by his three sons, L.N. Burks of Huntsville, Billy Dean Burks of Springdale, and Lonnie Burks of Harrison; one daughter, Mickey Wilson of Green Forest; one brother, Shorty Burks of Berryville; one sister, Blanche Jones of Green Forest; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Betty Jean Burks and Shebia Arlene Burks; one brother, Loy Burks and three sisters, Ruth Fultz, Ada Wright and Delean Ramsey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at the Nelson Chapel in Berryville with Rev. Alvin Reynolds officiating. Interment followed in the Moore Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
