CARROLL COUNTY -- Another late start didn't bring out the best in the Green Forest Tiger football team as they struggled to defeat winless Pottsville 14-0 last Friday in non-conference action to move to 2-0.

The Apaches' bus broke down and the team had to borrow one, setting kickoff time back after 8 p.m.

The first and second quarters were scoreless as the teams traded possessions until Tiger Tyler Watson fielded a bouncing punt over his shoulder and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown with just 36 seconds left in the half.

"That was a heck of a play," Coach Bill Gotto said. "He grabbed it up off a bounce, then picked up a block from Matt Russell and Colby Arnold and went 65 yards."

Trey Kerby kicked the extra point and the Tigers led 7-0 at the half.

"We weren't moving the ball on offense, but our defense kept them out of the end zone," Coach Gotto said. "We had bad field position the first half.

"You have to give credit to Pottsville. They played hard and the game was in doubt all night. We got nothing on offense, but both teams played good on defense.

"Pottsville turned up the heat with a goal line-type defense, and when we had to throw, we didn't execute.

"It's hard to analyze this," Gotto said. "We're not playing like we'd like. We have room for improvement."

The Tigers scored again with eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter when senior running back Tim Ellison broke lose on a 37-yard touchdown run. Kerby added the point after and the final 14-0 was reached.

"Adam Wade and Josh Arnold seem to be the people that get their job done," Coach Gotto said about his two outstanding senior lineman, adding, "Adam Plagge played hard again."
