LARRY GIELS a resident of Eureka Springs, was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Chicago, a son of Alfons and Mary (Lersch) Giels. He died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, in his home at the age of 80.
Mr. Giels was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Until his retirement he worked as an electrician for Western Electric and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of American.
On Sept. 20, 1974, he was united in marriage with Florence (Schultz) Giels, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his son Michael and his wife April of New Lenox, Ill.; two daughters, Susan and her husband Dave Kenney of Amasa, Mich., and Peggy and her husband Scott Jucha of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kenney. Callie and Carla Giels and Rick Thomas; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one sister-in-law.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at the St. Elizabeth's Parish Center. Memorial funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Parish Center with Father Thomas Arakal officiating.
