County bridge foreman dies in wreck on CR 504
BERRYVILLE ---- A 49-year-old Berryville man, David White, was killed Saturday night when he apparently lost control of his 1996 Nissan pickup, and it ran off of County Road 504 and overturned, ending up on its side.
Arkansas State Trooper Jana Cordes said in her report that the single-vehicle accident was relayed to her at about 11:05 p.m. Saturday. She said White was pronounced dead at the scene, and also reported that White was not wearing a seat belt.
County Judge Ulys Smith said Monday that White worked at the County Road Department.
"We are all stunned, and we regret it happened" the judge said. "He was at a wedding at my house Friday night, and then Saturday night I was notified about the accident.
County Roads Foreman Wendell Coatney said Monday that White had worked for the county for about 18 years, specializing in bridge repair.
"He was the bridge foreman, and he knew what he was doing," Coatney said. "We will miss his knowledge. He knew how to build the bridges."
The state police report said conditions were dry at the time of the accident and the weather was clear.
The accident is still under investigation. White lived on County Road 530 south of Berryville.
