Barbara June Asbury

Barbara June Asbury a resident of Oak Grove, was born June 26, 1930, in Coalinga, Calif., a daughter of Millard C. and Edna (McDowell) White. She died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in her home at the age of 74.

Before moving to Arkansas, Mrs. Asbury was a school bus driver in California for several years. After moving to Arkansas, she worked at Glick Manufacturing, Wal-Mart and was the secretary at Trinity Baptist Church in Green Forest before retiring. She was a member of the Towering Oaks Church.

On Nov. 21, 1945, she was united in marriage with Vern Asbury, who survives her. She is also survived by four daughters, Donna and husband Jack Pharis of Oak Grove, Verna and husband Bob Randall of Talent, Ore., Terri and husband Aaron Curtis of Oak Grove, Kristy Clark and John McIntire of Eureka Springs; one brother, Robert White of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Ruby Clark of Browns Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Helena Cox, Emily Dignan, Lori Lasley, Glenn Violette, Julie Lombard, Eric Serneck, Aaron Curtis, Jr., Amanda McLaughlin and Adam Curtis; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and David White; an infant son, David Asbury, a grandson, Cory Verhaagen.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the Towering Oaks Church in Berryville with Bro. Larry Montgomery officiating. Interment followed in the Hale Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to the Oak Grove Fire Department, in care of Gary and Pat High.
