Summer football camp no sweat in spite of heat
The Berryville 2004 All-Star Youth Football Camp for next year's third through sixth graders went off without a hitch on Monday through Wednesday this week, in spite of the hottest temperatures of the summer.
With degrees climbing into the nineties, 38 young athletes earned their football camp degrees from Bobcat coaching staff members, which included several new faces.
Athletics Director Doug Scheel, Assistant Head Coach Owen Powell, and assistant coach Ben Lairamore are veterans of the camp.
New staff members getting their first taste of Bobcat football were Freddy Penka and Mark Lewis, who joined the staff this summer. Also helping were Stevin Williams, a sophomore at BHS, and Perry Butler, one of the dads.
During the three days, the boys competed in a shuttle run, Dummy toss, 40-yard dash, a punt, pass and kick competition, and a team touch football competition.
