Rev. David E. Myers
Rev. David E. Myers, 61, of Geneseo, Ill. died on Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Geneseo.
He and his wife, Carol Jean, had just finished building a home at Holiday Island and were planning to retire here.
David Myers was born Nov. 16, 1942, in Salem, Ill., the son of Earl and Velma (Smith) Myers. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.
He married Carol Jean Buzzard on July 21, 1962, in St. Elmo, Ill. Rev. Myers served as Pastor of United Methodist Churches in Cambria, Ill., Murphysboro, Ill., Valhalla, N.Y., Sayreville, N.J., Baldwin, N.Y., Dallas, Texas, Fort Worth, Texas, Sesser, Ill., Vienna, Ill., Carlyle, Ill., Wood River, Ill., Vandalia, Ill., Fairfield, Ill., Edwardsville, Ill., and was currently serving at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo.
Memberships include the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Geneseo Rotary Club. He served on the boards of Building Together and the Geneseo Food Pantry. He enjoyed golfing, camping, jazz music, and church camp.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Mary Myers, Edwardsville, Ill., Alan and Cheryl Myers, St. Charles, Mo., and Stephen Myers, St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Adam, Jake, Mollie and Elaine; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Eileen Myers of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Revs. Bill Frazier, Jim Rhea, Robert R. Smith and John Hartleroad officiated. Cremation rites were accorded.
