Eureka's Wes Prado was presented the High Point award from Coach Hassell Bell at the 1AA Jr. Hi. meet Tuesday.

The Eureka Springs Highlanders hosted the 1AA Junior High District track meet on Tuesday at their track and field complex, with the Elkins Elks winning both divisions.

The Elkins boys scored 134 points to win, with the girls racking up 179 points. Ciara Cluck from Cedarville won the girls High Point award with 49 points.

But it was Eureka's own Wes Prado who took High Point honors for the boys with 36.5 points. Prado, just an eighth-grader, won the 800 and 1600m runs and the high jump, was third in the long jump, and eighth in the 200m dash.

"I was tickled to death for Wes," Coach Hassell Bell said. "His goals this year were to win the high point award, and he did, and to break 5:00 in the mile."

Prado did run a 5:01 earlier this year, but had to settle for a 5:09 this time. Eureka's boys finished sixth, with the girls earning a fourth place finish.
