Ferncliff camp is luncheon subject at Holiday Island Presbyterian

Tuesday, April 20, 2004

Holiday Island Presbyterian Church will host a luncheon on Thursday, May 6., at 11:30 a.m.

Speaker will be David Gill of Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center near Little Rock. He will share stories of the growth of the camp and of children who have attended.

Ferncliff offers year-round retreat opportunities for churches, schools and organizations, as well as camps for children of all ages.

The camp has operated for more than 60 years, and since 1997 summer camp enrollment has increased by 60 percent and conference center usage by 50 percent.

To continue to attract young people and to accommodate the growing numbers, Ferncliff needs a new youth camp. Adult facilities were built in 1992, but buildings used by youth groups and summer campers were built in 1950 and no longer meet current standards.

A donation of $7 is requested for the luncheon, and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.

For tickets or more information, telephone Jean Vernelson at (479) 253-2627.
