Lady Tigers earn shutout in opener, Peden pitches no-hitter

Monday, March 8, 2004

Coaches Mike Hampton and Vicki Magdafrau and the Green Forest Lady Tiger softball team got off to a great start when they opened their season on Tuesday with a 28-0 shutout of the Lead Hill Lady Tigers.

Veteran junior pitcher Amanda Peden was firing in her fastball for a no-hitter, and helped her cause at the plate by going 3 of 4. She also had 6 strikeouts. Summer Williamson finished up the final inning on the mound.

The Lady Tigers also won a junior varsity game, 7-0, with Torri Allen pitching the 2-1/2 innings.

"I was very pleased," Coach Hampton said. "Lead Hill is a new team, and they're just out of basketball, but we ran the bases well and paid attention, and were hitting the ball.

"Everyone hit safe, and all got on base. We pounded their pitches and didn't give them a chance to catch our hits."

Coach Hampton said he appreciated working with Coach Magdafrau, who "has a good background in softball, knows the girls, and they respect her."
