Archer Harris Reid
ARCHER HARRIS REID, a resident of Eureka Springs, was born July 27, 1915, in Eureka Springs, a son of Stephenson William and Juanita Margaret (Kile) Reid. He died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Eureka Springs at the age of 88.
Arch graduated from Draughom Business College in Springfield, Mo. His career was in hotel, food and beverage management. He managed the LaFayette Hotel in Little Rock until he was called to serve as a master sergent with the United States Army during World War II. After the war, Arch moved to Harrison, managing the Seville Hotel from 1946-1954. He then moved to Oklahoma City, where he owned a cafeteria and snack bar as well as managing several major hotels. On July 1, 1976, he was united in marriage with Barbara (Gahan) Reid.
In 1982, Arch and Barb moved back to Eureka Springs, where Arch's heart had always been. There, they owned various gift shops in town until their retirement around 1998. Arch continued to stay active with the 264th M.M. Company with whom he served with during the war, keeping in touch with an annual reunion. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Reid of the home; his son, Gregory Reid of Dallas; two adopted daughters, Sharon Reid and Deborah Reid, both of Texas; his sister, Marion H. Voss of Daytona Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephenson and Juanita Reid; two brothers; and one sister.
