Maxine E. Price Luce
Maxine E. Price Luce was born Jan. 1, 1920, at her parents' home in Ward Township, Clarke County, Iowa. She was the fourth of six children born to Ernest Price, Sr. and Mary Frances Camp Price. She died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kan. after a brief illness.
Maxine grew up on her parents' farm and attended Ward Center School. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1937 with a Normal Training certificate. She taught for a short time at Washington Center School.
She was married to Lyle Junior Luce at Mitchellville, Iowa, on Nov. 8, 1940. Three children were born to this union. They lived for many years in Clarke County and also in Indianola, Iowa. Maxine worked as a meat wrapper for Hy-Vee and later for Dahl's Food Stores in Des Moines. In 1979, she and Junior moved to Busch, Ark.. He died in Arkansas in 1986.
Maxine was a member of the First Christian Church in Eureka Springs, and for 15 years she led the Tuesday morning Ladies Bible Study.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; grandson, Vincent Luce; parents, Ernie and Fannie Price; brother, Ernest Price, Jr.; sister, Thelma Langlie; and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her sons, Ted Luce and wife Ellen of Las Vegas, Nev.; Fred Luce and wife Lita of Las Vegas; and by her daughter, Celia Davis and husband Donald of Ottawa, Kan. She leaves seven grandchildren: Christopher Luce and wife Elaine of Dallas, Tex.; Patrick Luce of Farmers Branch, Tex.; Melissa Luce of Federal Way, Wash.; Jay Luce of Guam; Shari Damaso and husband Ray of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jennifer Davis Marsh and husband Joe of Lenexa, Kan.; and Brandon Davis and wife Jennifer of Norfolk, Neb.. She had nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa; and brothers, Bob Price of Des Moines, Iowa, and Hubert Price of Osceola, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003.
