Golf girls finish season at state
The Berryville Lady Bobcat golf team played its final match of the year at the Red Apple Inn golf course near Heber Springs during the Class AAA State Golf Meet on Monday, as did Green Forest's Haley Roney, their lone entry.
The Berryville team finished ninth out of 12 teams with a 383 total. Heber Springs won the meet with a 300.
"They gave it their best shot," BHS golf coach Patricia Conner said. "There were narrow fairways, and lots of elevation, but it was a beautiful course with nice greens."
Anna Trowbridge led the team with a 104, with Ashley Carr carding in a 122. Francis Holland shot a 157.
"Anna had the best score of all the girls that played in our regional, and Ashley has been consistent," Conner said. "Francis had a tough round, but the meet was better than last year, when they played in the rain. It was sunny this year.
"They all played hard, and I was proud of them," Conner said.
Coach Ben Mayer said Haley Roney shot a 125 on the Red Apple Inn course that was lined with a lot of trees and included several hills, including one blind approach.
"Haley went last year to state," Mayer said. "It builds confidence getting there again."
Roney, a sophomore, will have two more tries if she makes the cut at district and regionals next year.
