VIOLET JOSEPHINE MAYFIELD, a resident of Holiday Island, was born Dec. 2, 1906, in Greenville, N.C., a daughter of Fredrick and Pearl (Mathewson) Sapp. She died Monday, Oct.20, 2003, in her home, at the age of 96.

Mrs. Mayfield lived in Tulsa, Okla., for 74 years and worked in the advertising department at Affiliated Foods. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tulsa. In 1993, she moved to Holiday Island and was a member of the Dove Circle Baptist Church, Holiday Island.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Eddy Curry of Holiday Island, and Virginia and Robert McReynolds of Sunlakes, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

On Nov. 4, 1928, she was united in marriage with Bruce I. Mayfield, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Pearl Sapp; and one grandson.

Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the Nelson's Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs with Rev. James Colwell and Rev. Gordon McDaniel officiating. Committal services and interment were Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
