Letter to the editor -- No 'pride' in building new jail

Friday, August 29, 2003

"Carroll County is going to build a jail that, by most accounts, will be source of pride for our community."

Say What? By most accounts? Pride or our community? A new jail? In the same edition, headlines scream "County budget is going into crisis" and "Schools need help."

Hmmmm. Pride in our community would be: not laying off workers; not limiting benefits; not treating our children to sub-standard education.

A Cadillac Jail?

You missed this one. I am sorry that you feel the need to defend our prisoners, and ignore our children and hard working citizens. I dare you to ask parents of school-age children, and those struggling to get by, how they really feel.

Most accounts, I think not

Mark Baker
