Ark./La. Amateur Bowling championships Aug. 23-24

Friday, August 1, 2003

The 2003 Arkansas/Louisiana Amateur Bowling Championships will be held Aug. 23-24 at Bowling World in Fort Smith, according to Gary Willson.

Willson is USA State Amateur Coordinator for Arkansas and Louisiana, and is tournament director. He will also be a competitor in the event, and was a national finalist in 1999 at the tournament in Reno, Nev.

The state championships for men and women will have the same format as last year ---- eight games on Saturday, Aug. 23, and eight games on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Top bowlers from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Florida have already entered the event, but spots are still open for all amateur bowlers in the area, Willson said.

Winners are crowned Ark./La. Amateur Champions, and receive free entry to the national championships, Jan. 4 through 9, in Las Vegas at the Castaways Hotel and Bowling Center. Winners there will make up the U.S. team.
