The Carroll County All Star 10-year-old baseball team was eliminated in the first two rounds of the Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament, which began last Thursday at A.L. Carter Field.

The Stars lost their first game to Meridian, Miss., 3-1, last Friday evening at 7 p.m., then played again on Saturday at 1 p.m. against North Randall County, Texas and lost 8-3. That ended their run in the double-elimination tournament.

The work didn't stop there for members of the Berryville Baseball and Softball Association, as the tournament continued through Tuesday.

Volunteers kept the fields sharp, the brackets moving, and the music flowing during the hottest weather of the summer. Temperatures on Sunday reached 100 degrees, with high humidity creating stifling conditions.

In spite of the horrible heat, the Little Rock Rangers cruised through the winner's bracket to the finals, knocking Meridan, Miss., into the loser's bracket. Meridan played the winner of the Jonesboro, North Randall game Monday at 6 p.m.

The winner takes on the Rangers Tuesday at 1 p.m. for the championship, with a second game set in case the undefeated Rangers lose.
